HPS Frequently Asked Questions
1. Why does HPS not have an online ordering facility?
The main reason is there are items that can freely be bought and sent by ordinary post and those that cannot. Firearms and their components, ammunition and propellant powder have special transport requirements that are governed by UK law. As we frequently receive order for items that can be sent freely in the post together with items that cannot we more often than not need to deal directly with the customer with regards to how certain items need to be transported as for some items they need to be sent directly to a local firearms dealer.

Another reason why we do not offer an online ordering facility is as much as we try to keep our stock topped up and as many of our colour choices available as possible, sometimes we run short. It is easier for us to deal with e-mail requests, whereby the customer has not gone through the stages of providing their address and payment details only to find we happen to be out of stock of a particular item or in a particular colour and where an acceptable alternative might be possible.

4. Does HPS have a shop or store I can visit?
No, not yet! But please feel free to drop by. All we ask is you give us a heads up of when you are planning on coming (so one of us will keep an ear for the doorbell – it gets noisy in here sometimes with all the machines going!) and we will provide you directions.

5. I do not live in the United Kingdom. Will this make a difference on ordering from HPS?

Yes, depending on what you order. Under UK Law, for firearms or their component parts, such as actions and triggers, ammunition and propellant powder, and outside the European Union even firearm accessories such as buttplates, bipods, handstops and other such items we need a signed original End User Undertaking (EUU). An EUU is simply a statement from yourself that you are licensed in your country to hold and use equipment for shooting sports. We provide the form of words for the EUU for you to transcribe onto your headed paper, sign and send back to us.

In some cases we will also need a copy of your Import License. HPS has what is called an Open Export License covering a large number of countries. Currently our Open Export License covers: Australia, Austria, Bahamas, Barbados, Belgium, Canada, Falkland Islands, Finland, France, Germany, Gibraltar, Greece, Guernsey, Guyana, Italy, Japan, Jersey, Luxembourg, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Trinidad & Tobago, and the United States. If your country is on our list, we can have the goods away to you as soon as receive your signed EUU. If your country is not on our Open Export License list then we require a copy of your Import License, together with an original signed EUU. We then must apply for an Export License for the items you have ordered in order to be able to send them to you. This can take anywhere from 4-6 weeks after receiving your copy Import License and signed EUU. We do not charge our customers any extra for obtaining an Export License.

8. What makes of actions will your System Gemini Stocks fit?
The System Gemini suite of stocks share the same chassis so they are suited to all styles of actions, both round or other shapes. Each of the stocks is machine finished to fit the chosen action and trigger, and Bedding Bolts are supplied.

Among the actions the System Gemini suite of stocks will accept are: RPA Quadlock, RPA Quadlite, RPA2000, Paramount, Swing, Barnard, Accuracy International Palmamaster, H&H Millennium, Musgrave, Mauser (some models), Remington 700, and its clones, Angel, Keppler, Anschütz 14, 18, 19 & 20 series, Walther GX-1 and the Fortner F27A Challenger. If you have something different just ask!

Note: Some actions can be fitted without the use of bedding compound. This depends on the action chosen. Certain actions will have to be bedded due to their tolerance variations.

9. What makes of rifles will your buttplates fit?

The Free Rifle Buttplate and AKTIV Free Rifle Buttplate and AKTIV Standard Rifle Buttplate are designed to fit most makes of alloy, plastic, composite or wooden stocks:

13. How long will it take for me to receive my System Gemini if I place an order today?

Generally you need to allow 3 – 4 working months from date of order with 50% deposit. This may vary depending upon stock availability and our current workload.

<< Back

14. Why does it take so long to get a System Gemini rifle stock?

All our System Gemini rifle stocks are made to customer specification. We try to keep a number of fullbore and smallbore stocks “in the white”, meaning machined up to a point whereby only the machining for the type of action remains to be done. Once a customer has placed an order, the stock can be machined for the particular action, and then bead blasted and anodised to the colour choice. This can take several weeks depending on the number of orders going through at any one time.

Machining for the action is done in house. The bead blasting and anodising are out sourced. To keep costs down, as both the bead blasting and anodising companies have minimum order requirements, below which the costs increase greatly, the stocks and any accessories to go with them, such as bipods and handstops, are sent out in batches. It usually takes a couple of weeks to have enough orders to make up a minimum batch. Once with our suppliers, we cannot unfortunately control how long it will take for the batch to be bead blasted and anodised as our suppliers have other customers too! Generally though, it takes around three weeks for a completed batch to come back to us.

Once we receive the parts back, we do the final assembly which includes the engraving and assembly of component parts such as buttplates, handstops and bipods, which takes approximately another one to two weeks depending on the number of orders going through at the time.

<< Back

15. Why does it take so long to get a complete System Gemini rifle?

All of the above applies but now we are into the realm of all the other parts required to make a complete rifle – barrels, actions, sights, etc. all of which come from other suppliers with variable deliveries which are not within our control. We do try to keep a stock of .22 and .300 Cal (.308) Lothar Walther and .300 Cal (.308) Krieger barrels, as well as RPA Quadlock actions, sights, triggers, etc. in order to smooth out delivery variations but it is hard to see into the future when ordering stock! Sometimes our suppliers have delivery periods that can be in excess of 4-5 months, as they too have to build to batches.

16. System Gemini stocks seem very expensive. Would it not be cheaper for me to stay with a wooden stock?

Yes and no. If you have to start with a basic wooden stock and were able to add in the cost of an adjustable cheekpiece, an adjustable buttplate and an adjustable grip, the extra parts, the machining and finishing costs would actually match if not exceed that of one of the System Gemini stocks. With System Gemini, the adjustability is already built in. If you need to change anything the flexibility is there to do so. Moreover, if, for whatever reason, you need to adjust your position in the future, you can adjust it yourself – it does not require another trip to the gunsmith to shave a bit more wood here or there! Or worse, having to buy another wooden stock as remember – once wood if removed from a wooden stock – it can’t easily be put back!

<< Back

17. The System Gemini stocks and buttplates seem very complicated with all those adjustments.

Too many shooters have to compromise their positions in order to suit an ill-fitting stock design. Typical modifications seem to include a towel wrapped around the butt, a lump of wood screwed to the rear of the butt and other such creative ideas! The benefit of the System Gemini stock and buttplate is the ability to set the stock and buttplate up to fit any size or shape of shooter and then to be able to make fine adjustments until the fit is perfect. Once set – that’s it! However, should you need to make a change, say for example on some ranges where the firing point angle may be different, a small change may be made to accommodate. You can make the change right there on the spot and change back immediately after the shoot. For this reason, we recommend you keep a record of your usual set up. This allows another shooter to borrow the stock, set it up for themselves and when returned to you, the original settings can be reset. No other stock is so versatile!

18. What about after sales support?

HPS offers a set-up service to all System Gemini owners to help them gain the best advantage from their System Gemini stock and buttplate and we will show you how easy it is to do this for yourself. Even long after you have purchased your System Gemini, if you have a question – just give us a call or drop us an e-mail!

<< Back

19. Do you take old rifles as trade in for a new rifle?
No, sorry we don’t. The main reason is that we don’t have a shop whereby such items could be displayed and more easily re-sold. It is something we may consider in the future when we do have a shop. For the time being, we do offer our customers the opportunity to place their rifle for sale in our Used Rifle Gallery for a nominal sum. Negotiations are between the buyer and seller and we don’t get involved. Contact us for details.

<< Back
20. Do you provide a re-barrelling service on rifles?
Yes, we do. We hold stainless steel barrels in .300 cal/ .308/7.62 of 30” and 34” length and stainless steel barrels in.22 cal of 26” length in stock. Many other calibres can also be supplied on demand either in special rifle steel (for blueing) or in stainless steel. Contact us for details.

<< Back
21. Do you provide general servicing of wooden stocked rifles?

We can also supply and fit adjustable buttplates and rising cheekpieces to many makes of wooden stocks.

We also supply all versions of ELEY .22 Rimfire ammunition. You will find that our prices for match ammunition are very competitive with other well-known brands. Please note, however, that we do not attempt to compete with Military surplus or low-end cheap ammunition. Our purpose is to provide maximum accuracy, not just noise!

<< Back

23. I would like to load my own ammunition, can you help me with information on loading tables?

Loading your own ammunition is not for the inexperienced. We prefer not to provide too many details on our website regarding various loads of powder vs bullet weights, etc. as it is a complicated subject involving numerous variables such as the type of rifle, barrel and chamber you intend to use the ammunition in and for what purpose, the climate conditions in which the ammunition will be shot (loads that work fine in the UK need downgrading in very hot climates), etc. It is better for you to contact us so we can discuss you requirements in detail and provide help with where to find information and equipment.
